Sync *all* of your Chandler data with Apple iCal, Lightning…

August 12th, 2008 at 9:25 am (4 months, 3 weeks ago) by Mimi Yin under Chandler Product News, How I Use Chandler

For a couple of months now, Chandler Hub has supported the ability to sync all of your Chandler data (not just events) onto other iCalendar or CalDAV to applications and tasks.

Chandler notes (starred or plain) should now show up in other iCalendar or CalDAV calendar applications (e.g. Apple iCal, and Lightning) as Tasks (VTODOS).

Here are instructions on how to subscribe to Chandler collections from other calendar applications. (Unfortunately, some Chandler-specific will be lost. e.g. NOW and LATER triage status will both be interpreted as “Not-Done”. Anytime events will look the same as All-day events.)

I also demo this in the second half of the new 3-Minute Feature Tour. Also available (lo-res) on YouTube.

Has anyone made use of this feature yet?

I have iCal synchronizing with the Chandler hub for the sole purpose of sync’ing calendar data with my iPhone. I’ve been looking for a way to background sync this data to iCal so that I don’t need to have iCal open but haven’t been successful in finding a solution.

Has anyone been able to do this or come up with a better method of sync’ing chandler calendar data to an iphone?

    Hi Chris,

Currently, sync via iCal is the best way I know of to get calendar data into the iPhone calendar app.

    Best,
    Mimi

chris, are you’re syncing your chandler data to an ical on an apple computer, who in turn uses mobileme and/or itunes to sync to your iphone?

Any equivalent solution on XP? I’m using Cosmo server on the LAN, Chandler Desktop, Thunderbird with Lightning, no Outlook, no Google Calendar.

Thank you for the Chandler software!
I use the Lightning extension of Thunderbird to keep a calendar in a Chandler server (0.15.1). Since the last update of Lightning (version 0.9) though it has become impossible to add events to the Chandler calendar. I get a load of javascript errors and the dav linked Calendar in Thunderbird is unresponsive.
But perhaps / hopefully this is a known issue …

If you use iCal to move Hub-managed To Do Items to the Calendar, or vice versa, beware:

    • events/items may be not properly synced, or duplicated; but iCal may present no error.

I refer to two related issues within the Bugzilla for Chandler, both keyworded ‘interop’; I suspect an issue with Apple Sync Services in Mac OS X 10.5.5.
