Maybe you just read our recent announcement about two Software Developer positions opening at OSAF (E-mail Backend Developer and Data Model Developer). Well we have two more positions to list.

Software Developer - Applications Infrastructure

You will participate in the design and development of the applications infrastructure used by Chandler developers.

Applications Developer

You will participate in the design and specification of some part of the Chandler application and be responsible for its implementation.

OSAF is expanding, come and join our OSAF development team. We have just opened two new engineering positions:

Software Developer - Data Model

Your responsibilities in the very short term will start with developing unit tests and performance tests in order to learn the system. You will rapidly transition into implementing new functionalities.

Software Developer - Email Backend

Your responsibilities will include evaluating existing code for communicating with e-mail servers and parsing e-mail messages, making fix/build decisions, and hooking them to the networking and data repository frameworks. You will also take an architectural role in deciding how to integrate email.

Two articles have been just published about OSAF’s Chandler project.

One is a sidebar in the most recent issue of Wired Magazine entitled “Reinventing Your Inbox: Mitch Kapor brings open source to the masses.”, by Dan Gillmor.

The other is the top story in the November issue of MIT Technology Review, “Trash Your Desktop: Mitch Kapor’s new, more intuitive computer interface puts all the information we need to manage our digital lives at our fingertips, no matter what form it’s in.”, by Michael Fitzgerald. You can also see this article as a pdf file with fancier formatting and photos.


Mitch is Speaking October 23 at SDForum on Open Source

Mitch Kapor willl be speaking at the SDForum at 6:00 on October 23 on “Ubiquitous Open Source: What Does It Mean for the Software Industry?”. The event takes place at Xerox PARC in Palo Alto. Details here.

Discounted admission $10 in advance, $15 at the door, if you mention you’re part of the OSAF community of interest.

Mitch’s slide presentation from the event is posted on the OSAF website. Notes from the speech and comments by Chris Gulker have been posted online in the IT Manager’s Journal article, Kapor: Why the old development model is history.


Job Posting - Desktop System Administrator

OSAF is looking for a Desktop System Administrator. Your responsibilities at our office in San Francisco will include setting up machines, managing network services, office phones, providing direct support for desktops and laptops, troubleshooting and resolution, and setting up internal processes.

Candidate should have 3 + years of experience supporting users and some exposure to multiple platforms (Microsoft, Linux, UNIX, Mac). However, number of years of experience is less important than being passionate about learning new things! You must be a self starter, independent, organized, friendly, able to communicate clearly and efficiently, and willing to work in a team oriented, dynamic environment.
